Chrysalides

The Chrysalis class is for Bookworms from approximately three to four years of age, or until they are ready to start preparing for their adventures in Kindergarten.  Our Chrysalides are now using pencils and practice tracing every day.  They are also very good at recognizing many of their numbers and most of their letters; they even know most of their letter sounds!  The Chrysalides know what a calendar is for and use lots of words to talk to their friends to plan out what they will do and play.  They also like to ask lots of questions so they are always learning new things.  The Chrysalides spend time talking about different countries and learning about how people in other parts of the world live and they know that even though people look and sound different, we are all the same on the inside.  When our Chrysalides are ready, they will move up to the Butterfly room and get ready to go out into the big, wide, world.

Butterflies

Our friends in the Butterfly class range in age from four years until they enter Kindergarten.  Bookworms in this class are beginning their independent writing and taking the first steps toward reading by identifying letter souds in words.  Butterflies love to work on their math and science experiments.   Our friends in the Butterfly class begin to learn about important things like how our government works by learning about the Preamble to the Constitution, how a map works by following Lewis and Clark on their journey, and social justice by learning about people like Cesar Chavez and Nelson Mandela.

Caterpillars

The Caterpillar class is for Bookworms between the ages of two and approximately three years old.  Our friends in this class are beginning to use their crayons and, with the teacher's hand over theirs, scissors.  They are starting to recognize their letters and numbers and sing songs about the days of the week and months of the year.  They work hard to stand in line and wait for their turn.  Caterpillars are beginning to learn about feelings and what to do with their mad and sad.  They are using words to ask for help and talk about their day.  When playing with their friends, they try hard to use nice words and take turns.  Caterpillars love to paint, use Play-doh, and build with blocks. Next stop, Chrysalis room!
